Encountering Time

Join us in Hong Kong for a creative and inspiring weekend workshop at the Asia Art Archive to:

  • learn from experienced DP Visual Art teachers
  • explore artistic resources to help create more inclusive learning in your classrooms
  • inspire your students
  • AND unpack new ideas for the upcoming DP VA 2025 curriculum updates.

Cost: $200 USD

Date: October 25-27, 2024

Whether you are a new or seasoned Visual Arts teacher, you are well aware that unpacking the current IB DP VA curriculum takes time to consider, marinate, and simmer. Add to that the thought of teaching the newly updated syllabus (being released in February 2025) which brings in a barrage of more questions: What are the updates and changes? Is there anything that remains? How will I structure my course?

We were inspired to develop this workshop to share tried and true DP VA practices and knowledge, give you access to DP VA resources, create opportunities for community, and sharing with other DP VA teachers all the while looking ahead and navigating the coming possibilities of the updated curriculum.

Amy Atkinson is a DP VA educator at CDNIS HK, Ph.D. Candidate at Concordia University in Montreal, co-editor of Canadian Art Teacher and creator of DP VA support site ibdpvawithmissa.com

Michelle Wang is a MYP/DP VA educator at CDNIS HK.
She holds a dual degree of Visual Art and Science from Queens’ University and M.Ed from OISE, University of Toronto, specializing in Curriculum studies.

Asia Art Archive is a nonprofit organisation based in Hong Kong that documents the recent history of contemporary art in Asia within an international context. AAA incorporates material that members of local art communities find relevant to the field, and provides educational and public programming.

Hong Kong artist Kith Tsang Tak Ping is an educator and farmer, working across art education, practice, curation, research, and criticism.  Tsang has exhibited internationally and was an Associate Professor at HK Polytechnic University’s School of Design for 24 years.

These hands-on sessions, led by DP VA educators with extensive experience, are designed to elevate your DP VA teaching practice, heighten your knowledge of available resources, network with other DP VA teachers, and ensure you feel more prepared to step into your DP VA classroom with confidence.

During the ‘Encountering Time’ weekend workshop, you will:

  • Elevate your understanding of the current DP VA curriculum, how the 3 components can work together, and how to pace the 2-year learning experience.
  • Explore and unpack proposed changes to the DP VA curriculum and how to use your current experience to navigate the proposed changes.
  • Learn and experience strategies to elevate DP VA student submissions from experienced (current) DP VA educators
  • Explore the vast resources of the Asia Art Archive and be inspired by Hong Kong artists, creating opportunities for your DP VA students to reach beyond the Western canon.
  • Get actionable resources to support your DP VA teaching.
